Seoul, February 12 (Bizwire, South Korea) — SK Chemicals Co. said on Tuesday that it will commercialize a new environmentally friendly polyol material made from corn.
The company will break ground this year on the site of its Ulsan plant to build a new material called polyoxytrimethylene glycol (PO3G), which has high elasticity.
SK Chemicals' PO3G is based on raw materials made from fermented corn.
Using 100% environmentally friendly biological materials, compared with traditional polyols, greenhouse gas emissions during the pre-production process are reduced by 40%.
PO3G will be used in sports shoes and furniture, but it is softer, more elastic and more wear-resistant than traditional products.
